THE UNTOLD SIDE OF SKIN LIGHTENING CREAM

The science magic behind the skin animating effect of these bleaching products can be traced to a rocket substance; I mean the mercury salt ingredient. Mercury salts inhibit the formation of melanin, thus resulting in a thin lighter skin tone. Mercury salts are also used as pesticides (fungicide) for their enormous toxic effects to living things. In early centuries, the Greeks used mercury for placating (i.e. chasing away evil spirits). Other active ingredients that can be found in these skin lightening products may include hydroquinone, and corticosteroids.

According to 20010 World Health Organisation release, at least 77% of Nigerian women
use skin lightening products frequently, so do 59% of women in Togo, 35% of women in South Africa. Nearly 40% of women in china province of Taiwan and Hong Kong, Malaysia, the republic of Korea and Philippines use skin lighteners. In India, at least 61% of cosmetic market consists of skin lightening products.

However, the little yet documented about the tormenting side effects of these chemicals go beyond danger of kidney damage, damage to the nervous/sense system, skin decolourization and scarring, reduction in skins resistance to bacterial and fungal infections, failure to heal after surgery, intense skin irritations and above all the corroding cancer.
